STOUGHTON HIGH SCHOOL OF ROCK

NOVEMBER 9, 2024

WORKSHOP at 1 PM  |  CONCERT at 7 PM

ARE YOU READY TO ROCK?

We hope so, because the Stoughton High School of Rock is ready to rock you with a concert to remember at the SHS Performing Arts Center on November 9th at 7:00 pm.

The concert is a fundraising event to support music education at Stoughton High School, which includes a free afternoon workshop, led by the artists playing at the rock concert that evening. The workshop, supported by Dane Arts, is geared towards high school and college aged musicians; but it is open to anyone interested in creating and performing music or simply learning more about musicians and their creative process.  â€‹â€‹

The Workshop - 1:00 pm

Rock musicians Betsy Ade from Kenosha and Megan Slankard from San Francisco lead a free workshop focusing on:

  • The Artists and Their Creative Process

  • Finding Your Creative Process and Your Voice as an Artist

  • A Master Class Exercise with the SHS Rock Band

  • Selecting and Arranging Music

  • Taking Care of Yourself as a Musician, Including Your Vocal and Physical Health

WHO'S PLAYING THE SHOW

Opening the concert will be indie rock singer/songwriter Megan Slankard from San Francisco.

Megan has toured nationally and internationally on her own and opening for other artists, including Toad the Wet Sprocket, Cracker, and Kim Richey. She's also performed on the Sister Hazel Rock Boat Cruise with both her band and musicians with whom she wrote and recorded a new album in a songwriting retreat for that event.

Closing out the evening will be Kenosha's Betsy Ade & the Well-Known Strangers. â€‹â€‹â€‹â€‹

Betsy appeared as a contestant on Season 16 of the NBC show The Voice. She made it to the Top 24 and worked with coaches John Legend, Kelly Clarkson, and Adam Levine.

She and her band have released an album and multiple EPs and singles, and they've performed regionally, internationally, and on the Melissa Etheridge Cruise.

THE POWER OF LIVE MUSIC

It's fun to listen to music in the car or put on headphones and lose yourself in the sound of a great recording, but there's nothing like experiencing live music in person. With no safety net of a second take, there can be moments that make you feel like time is standing still. â€‹

Watch Betsy's dynamic live audition for The Voice singing "Hunger" by Florence and the Machine, and you'll see why coaches turned their chairs for her in Season 16.

Here's Megan's powerful live performance of her song "High Note" with an assist from friend and producer Alex Wong.

THE JOY OF NEW MUSIC

It's great to hear your favorite songs played live by a band you love or a tribute band, but there's something special about seeing a band or artist for the first time, experiencing music you've never heard before, and just maybe falling in love with it. â€‹

Betsy and Megan may perform their take on one or two covers in their shows, but they write and perform their own music. Here are two more examples of their original songs.

"Bones Live Forever" is the lead single from Megan's 2015 album Running with Machinery.
