Get To Know
Megan Slankard
Whether you know a little about San Francisco based indie rock singer songwriter Megan Slankard or nothing at all, you're in the right place to learn about her and her music.
Music Videos
For a introduction to Megan's music, her music videos are a great place to start. They add creative visuals to a song in some cases and feature a live performance in others.
California
The official music video for the lead single from the album California & Other Stories features some great images of Megan's beloved San Francisco to accompany a memorable breakup song.

Token of the Wreckage
For Megan's 2011 album Token of the Wreckage, cinematographer and producer Matthew Ward contacted her with an idea about a music video for the title track. The resulting story and images capture the tone of the song perfectly, and the whole thing plays like a movie!
High Note
Megan performs a powerful live version of her song "High Note" with an assist from friend and producer Alex Wong in this video from Telefunken Studios.

They Gonna Talk
Sometimes a devoted fan of an artist captures a great live performance and shares it online, and everyone wins. Case in point: This video of "They Gonna Talk" from California & Other Stories.
Audio Tracks
Music videos can be great, but sometimes all you need or want is to listen to the music. Here are four of Megan's many original songs that you can do that with.
Bones Live Forever
The lead single off Megan's Running on Machinery album, "Bones Live Forever" has a cool video too; but it's great just to listen to as well.
Too Bad You
It's not surprising that the hosts of TLC's What Not to Wear chose this song to sing a parody of on their show: it's great fun, and it rocks.
Oil In The Ocean
Megan's California & Other Stories album closes with this poetic, powerful, and emotionally searing track.
The Happy Birthday
Released as part of the album A Token of the Wreckage, "The Happy Birthday" is as bright melodically as the album cover is dark.

Megan: Music and Beyond
Why put a dry biographical blurb here about Megan's life when she can tell you her own story?
Listen to the Hum
Megan's TED Talk at a regional event in 2018 features her origin story as a musician and tales of her adventures and personal journey as an independent singer songwriter. There are a couple of songs too (and a few seconds of audio difficulties around the six-minute mark).

What Not to Wear
As Megan alludes to in her TED talk, she appeared on the TLC channel style makeover show What Not to Wear in 2004.
You can download the full episode from Amazon, but here's a short recap from YouTube.

When someone posted clips from that episode on TikTok in 2024, Megan responded with a video about her experience on the show.
Patreon
In an era where everyday working musicians struggle with the costs of touring and with music streaming that pays them only pennies a year, Megan's decision to join Patreon in 2014 looks like incredible foresight. Through Patreon, she connects with patrons who support her creative work with a modest monthly subscription.
The video Megan created to announce her presence on Patreon provides a whimsical overview of what it's all about.

A mini-documentary in 2015 gave Megan the opportunity to talk about Patreon and what her patrons' support means to her as an artist.
Almost ten years later, her Patreon subscriptions are per month rather than per song, but Megan continues to write and record a new song every month at her home studio in San Francisco.
As of August 2024, there are 117 songs available to patrons, including early versions of the songs on her California & Other Stories album and other songs, like "High Note," that have found their way into her live shows. Hearing what Megan has come up with next is an adventure her patrons look forward to each month.
Here are a couple of songs that Megan released as singles with few changes from when they first appeared on Patreon.
New Year Darling
This wistful New Year's song captures the longing for connection we all share as human beings.
Loving You Another Day
A winter day pulls in two different directions: towards the warmth of a relationship and the lure of adventure.
